Post this link anywhere your customers will see it: your website, emails, social networks, even on your Myspace page! |
How do I make money selling my songs using Mixpal?
Every time someone clicks on the MixLink they will be taken immediately to a payment page where they can use any major credit card, or their PayPal account to pay for your digital media (no PayPal account is required!). Once the customer completes the purchase they will be taken to a secure page where they can download the digital content. At the same time they are also sent an email with a secure link to download the content, just in case their connection goes down or there is some other kind of problem. The money from the purchase goes immediately and directly to your PayPal account. You can literally watch your sales grow in your PayPal account in real time.
Great, so how much does this cost?
There is no sign up fee to join Mixpal, nor do we charge a monthly or annual fee to belong to our service. If you don't make any sales we don't make any money (in fact we lose money, since we have to pay for the storage!). Mixpal makes money by billing you a small 10% commission per sale (with a minimum of 10 cents - so files selling for less than a $1.00 will still be charged .10 per sale). This is completely backwards from the old days: it used to be that the artists only got 12-15% of the money from the music they sold. Now we are turning that completely around and artists are getting nearly all of the money! Using our system you can make more money per sale than any other method currently available, and yes that includes iTunes.
Tell me more about how much I can make!
In the old days if you sold 10,000 records for a major label you were a failure and you wouldn't make any royalties at all. 10,000 records is considered a modest success for an indie label, and if you have a 50/50 split you can expect to make around $10-15k in royalties after paying your share of any label expenses (note every situation is different, we're just speaking from personal experience), but with Mixpal if you sell 10,000 records you are going to make almost $80,000. And selling 150k (which is a modest success on a major label - just enough to keep you from getting dropped) will make you a millionaire on MixPal!
Why do you keep talking about albums, and not songs? I thought digital music was all about .99 songs?
It's true that .99 songs are how many people buy digital music these days. This is largely due to the popularity of iTunes, and it was a neccesary step to get the general public used to paying for music online. But we think the situation right now is in some ways similar to the 50's where popular music was ruled by the 7" Single. Selling singles is comparitively easy for the seller, but it doesn't do very much for the artist, and we believe it isn't doing much for the listener either. We think most bands would be much better served by selling Albums and avoid selling singles except for promotional purposes. Don't get us wrong, you can sell as many singles as you want through MixPal for whatever amount you choose to sell them for. If you want to sell .99 songs through MixPal, you absolutely can. The point we are trying to make here is that we think you will be better served by selling albums, not songs. Here are some reasons why
REASON #1: Because of transaction
fees charged on a per transaction basis by PayPal
you actually make more money by selling an album
online than you do by selling a single. |
Mixpal has only one interest here, and that's the same as yours: to help you sell as many records as possible. We certainly wouldn't encourage you to sell albums if we thought that would result in you selling fewer records!
OK, so how do I sell an album through Mixpal?
Selling collections of songs through Mixpal is easy. You just need to gather all of your album's MP3's into one folder, and then use a popular free compression program like WinZip, or StuffIt to turn that folder into one ZIP file. We recommend using the ZIP compression format because it is the most common and well known format, and your customers will have no trouble opening the file regardless of whether they are on a Macintosh or PC.
What if I want to sell something besides digital music? Can I sell PDF's of sheet music or guitar TABs? MIDI Ringtones? Videos? Software?
If you have digital content that can be downloaded over the internet, you can sell it through Mixpal. We talk about Albums and MP3's because that's the niche we are currently targeting, but we can accomodate any form of digital content you may have. If it sits on a computer, and someone will buy it, you can sell it through us. Knock yourself out!
